Elie Saab Fall 2011 Prom Dresses Collection

Sheer Fantasy, Charmed Reality

Elie Saab says his Fall 2011 couture Prom Dresses collection — red carpet-ready, as always — was inspired by skyscrapers, but stylist Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, who has worked with Saab for three collections, laid it out in layman’s terms: “We wanted to explore the fragility of femininity. These cheap prom dresses have a diaphanous fairy like feel to them but remain empowering. It’s always a challenge to relate Elie’s inspirations and themes to his couture customers, but he remains mindful of this at all time.”

Elie Saab has offered us all the spoils of what it is to be a charmed woman who embraces her feminist: layers of lace and tulle, tender floral touches, beadwork for miles, and fitted draping to show off the figure (and what amazing figures his girls did flaunt underneath all that craftsmanship!). His Fall 2011 Prom Gowns couture show was bursting with ethereal yet wearable beauty. With softly cinched waists, trimmed with ribbons and corsages out of a secret garden, and liquid skirts slit to show off a toned leg or two, Saab served a plethora of impeccably-fitting gowns, all fit for the red carpet and one lovelier than the next.

Also impeccable, the range of colors. Metallic silver-gray, crystal white, muted amber-taupe, and glittering midnight blue reinforced the princess fantasy, while the short, slightly coltish prom dresses 2012 evoked a ladylike fairy. The grand finale? A crystalline bride. Model Toni Garrn donned a soft kiss of a gown, with a sensually bare décolletage and a fairy-princess skirt, complete with frothy-sheer veil.

These are dresses you would make an event happen for, fit for a dream wedding or a party of epic proportions. Indeed, it is every woman’s fancy to wear a dress like one of the forty-plus romantic looks Elie Saab sent down his couture runway.
